The Thinking Behind the Design

At KabCo Kitchens, we’ve been designing and building custom kitchen remodels in South Florida since 2004. And while every project is different, the way we think stays consistent: we design around how you live, how your home flows, and what will still feel right years from now.
We’re sharing a real behind-the-scenes look at one KabCo build — from early layout decisions and planning to construction and final installation — so you can see what “design-led” actually looks like in practice.
What Guides Every KabCo Kitchen Remodel
Before we talk finishes, we get clear on the priorities that matter most:
-
How our clients live — daily routines, entertaining habits, and long-term needs
-
Function first — layouts that work effortlessly, not just visually
-
Thoughtful tradeoffs — balancing storage, openness, and architectural integrity
-
Design longevity — spaces that feel just as right years from now
Step 1 Begins with a Kitchen Design
Every successful kitchen starts with the layout.
Before materials, colors, or details are selected, our designers study:
-
Traffic flow: how people move through the space
-
Adjacencies: how the kitchen connects to dining, living, outdoor areas, and sightlines
-
Routines: How daily routines and entertaining will naturally unfold
A well-designed layout creates flow and ease—qualities homeowners experience every day, even if they can’t immediately articulate why the space feels so comfortable.

Intentional Design Decisions That Elevate the Space
Once the plan is resolved, we refine the details that make the kitchen feel calm, cohesive, and elevated.
Our team focuses on:
-
Clean cabinetry profiles that won’t feel dated in a few years
-
Purposeful proportions — balanced scale, consistent reveals, strong alignment
-
Materials chosen for function and feel (not decoration)
-
Lighting and layering that support how the kitchen is used throughout the day
Every decision supports longevity and usability. The goal is a kitchen that feels refined and relevant well beyond the moment it’s completed.

Thoughtful Tradeoffs That Put the Client First
Every kitchen requires prioritizing — but those decisions should always serve the people who live there. In this home, our clients wanted the kitchen to function as more than a work zone. So we designed for gathering:
-
Generous built-in seating at the island
-
A custom T-shaped table that supports both everyday life and entertaining
-
A layout that encourages people to sit, stay, and connect — without interrupting workflow

The layout itself was fully reimagined to open the space and improve flow, while preserving the architectural integrity of the home. Exposed beams and original structural elements were intentionally highlighted, reinforcing the character of the house rather than erasing it. For clients who enjoy entertaining and collecting wine, a custom bar was thoughtfully integrated adjacent to the kitchen, enhancing functionality without competing with it.
These are the kinds of tradeoffs we guide clients through every day:
-
Storage balanced with openness
-
Function prioritized alongside visual symmetry
-
Meaningful design moments chosen for longevity, not excess
Each decision is intentional, informed by experience, and rooted in how the space will be lived in—resulting in a home that feels cohesive, practical, and genuinely personal.

From Render to Reality
Kitchen renderings are a critical part of our design process created to clarify.
They allow us to:
-
Refine proportions and scale
-
Confirm relationships between cabinetry, lighting, and appliances
-
Ensure the design intent is fully resolved before construction begins
When a finished kitchen closely reflects the original render, it’s the result of a disciplined design process carried through every phase of the project.
To show what that process really looks like in practice, we’re sharing a behind-the-scenes look at a real KabCo build—tracing the project from early planning and design through construction and final installation.
Why a Design-Led Process Matters
A thoughtful design process results in kitchens that:
-
Support how people truly live
-
Feel intuitive and effortless to use
-
Remain beautiful and functional over time
This is the value of working with a design-led, full-service kitchen remodeling firm—where every decision is intentional and every detail is considered.
